Kalle

Before Macala, Kalle was owned by Katie Wooldridge, who purchased him as a 6 year old after he was abandoned at the barn by his original owners. Being an eventer herself, she tried competing him in that, and in some jumping, but it wasn't until she focused on dressage that they found their niche. She writes, "When I made the decision to switch to dressage our relationship got so much better. I bonded with him in a way I never had with any other horse, he was amazing. We competed around California doing 1st and 2nd level, he went to Pony Club Championships in dressage. Once I started working full time he sat for a while, which wasn't fair to him, I also started looking at learning western and doing trail challenges (which really wasn't his thing) so I made the decision to let him move on to the next stage of his life. He taught me so much about what an amazing relationship a girl can have with her horse. He was my dream horse when I got him, he turned out to be so much more amazing than I ever thought possible." Katie owned and loved him for 12 years!

Macala writes, "I bought him from Katie in order to help rebuild my confidence in a riding accident after nearly being trampled by my previous horse. When I met him, I knew he was the one. The fear kinda faded away and I had him for two and half wonderful years. But work took me to London, and now New York. I sent him to Margot because I knew that she was only a stone's throw to my family in Minnesota and he could be cared for until he died."

Kalle came to us in November 2014 at age 20, but looks and acts like he's 10! We decided to call him "Kalle" (Carl) which is the Swedish nickname for "Carolus" (Charles), but that doesn't stop Maverick from calling him Charlie!

Maverick with "Charlie" the day he arrived

Margot's first ride on him, he sure doesn't look 20!

Shoulder-in on him is so fun!

Jeff is 6'6" tall and makes this horse look small. This is Jeff's 5th ride on a horse ever in his life! Kalle gives everyone confidence.

Yes, that is seriously his pedigree! You can't get much fancier with a bloodline that literally screams DRESSAGE! Midt-West Ibi-Light was owned and ridden by Kyra Kyrklund, Olympic competitor for Sweden. He was sire of the year for Danish Warmbloods in 1999 and had many international victories in Gran Prix dressage including qualifying for the 1996 Olympic Games.
Kalle's dam sire, Gauguin de Lully, took home team silver and individual bronze medals for Switzerland at the 1988 Olympics. His dam had been sold to a breeder Switzerland in foal (with him) and even though he was small and seemed unlikely to become an international dressage star, his accomplishments proved to be phenomenal. This article summarizes this amazing horse's life.
